Charles Barton & Leelu Sky
The Beach
music production · co writing · concept video
2026
This is a fun personal project where I did some writing and vocals of my own, and collaborated with Leelu Sky on the chorus and songwriting. I wanted something beachy with indie rock vibes but still pop. The drums and the analog synth help balance out the summery 70s feel of the Fender Jaguar.
I recorded both verse and chorus vocals with multiple mics to give it a wider 70s feel. The vocal production was inspired by both Figurine and the production chain used in Madonna’s “Vogue”.
This one is still unreleased and we’ve got multiple creative projects in the works. What I’m sharing here is a concept video I generated using images from a beach Lego set that I’m using for stop motion. These clips were generated using the actual Lego set, and the plan is to use stop motion to create social media clips and possibly a full music video. I thought that ChatGPT + Seedance did a good job of visualizing some of the ideas we had.
The beat actually went through many versions — over 10 iterations until landing on something that captured the beachy 70s pop style I was going for and leaving enough room for our vocals to shine. With a lot of my beats I start minimal and see where the vocals take the track. With this one, I had been working on a more full instrumental for sync and decided to pare it down for a pop track. There’s a lot of little details that add color to the instrumental that I sampled and minimized in the mix. I maintained the original atmosphere of the song without oversaturating the mix with sounds. And for the breakdown why not throw in some ocean sounds I recorded at the beach?
